Redistricting meeting 7/26

150 150

THIS COMING MONDAY, JULY 26!

Residents of Port Townsend, Jefferson County, and the 24th Legislative District will get another chance on Monday, July 26, to speak up on new boundaries for the 6th Congressional District.

The Washington State Redistricting Commission is holding a second round of public outreach meetings using Zoom. It's your chance to have a voice in how district boundaries are redrawn to reflect the 2020 census.

The meeting for the 6th Congressional District, which includes Jefferson County, will be from 7-9 p.m. July 26. The 3rd Congressional District, which covers southwest Washington, will also be part of that meeting.

To contribute in the meeting, you will need to register as a participant to get a Zoom meeting invite, which is unique to each registrant. Click on this link if you want to register to comment at the meeting: https://leg-wa-gov.zoom.us/.../WN_EIuVurs6Tau0D2T-bjcPLw

If you want to only observe the process, you can follow it live on tvw.org or on the Commission’s YouTube channel. You DO NOT need to register for a Zoom invite to only watch and observe the meeting.

Program: Invest in Washington Now

Washington state has the most upside-down tax system in the nation. A low-income person pays about 17% of their income in state and local taxes while a middle- income person pays about 7% and a wealthy person pays about 3%.

Invest in Washington Now is supporting Senate Bill 5096, which would install a capital gains tax on wealthy Washingtonians, and they have other ideas on reform of Washington’s tax structure.

Congressman Derek Kilmer (tentatively depending on House schedule) will discuss the current session of the House of Representatives.

Business Meeting After Program

Major agenda items:

  • Financial review of JCDs 2020 accounts
  • Status of audits requested regarding the December reorganization meeting
  • Resolution – SB 5096 – Capital Gains Tax
