Included will be an informative forum on environmental issues including Gov. Inslee’s report on the Lower Snake River dams and Orca population among others. Speakers include: PATRICIA JONES is the Executive Director of the Olympic Forest Coalition, a local non-governmental organization dedicated to the protection of habitat, wildlife, forests and marine waters of the Olympic Peninsula. Patricia was appointed by Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz to represent conservation in the "Solutions Table," a multi stakeholder advisory group working on problem solving for more marbled murrelet conservation and essential services for beneficiaries. Patricia’s background in environmental justice and human rights law and policy was focused on safe drinking water and sanitation domestically in the U.S. and internationally. She has a PhD, Masters of Law, and JD, and is an alumna of the U. of W, and graduate of Port Townsend High School. ALL BERGSTEIN is an environmental activist from Port Townsend. He has been the editor of the Olympic Peninsula Environmental News since 2007. He is a long time member of the Jefferson County Marine Resources Committee and is on the board of Sound Action, an advocacy organization for protecting nearshore habitat. JIM WADDELL is a Civil Engineer retired from a 35-year public service career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Serving with the EPA and other Federal environmental agencies during his long career he integrated all  global warming research and helped establish the US Global Research Program.  As part of his work since his retirement  he has recommended breaching  the 4 lower Snake river dams as a sound biological and economic benefit helping to save our native salmon and Orca populations. Waddell is now Director of the Dam Sense Project at DamSense.org.

The JCD Finance Committee has performed a review of JCD accounts for 2017. The accounts are in order. Minor and unintentional reporting errors were identified and have been corrected. Next Membership Meeting: Wednesday, November 29th at 6:00pm Location: Chimacum High School Auditorium, 91 W Valley Rd, Chimacum, WA 98325

This meeting will represent both our November and December membership meetings, so that no formal membership meeting will be scheduled during the month of December.   We will be considering endorsement of Representatives Mike Chapman and Steve Tharinger. The board is recommending early endorsement of our incumbent Democratic representatives.   *Resolutions to be read before the membership. Several resolutions that were read to the membership  at our October meeting will be voted on at our November 29th meeting.  At least one new resolution will be read before the membership. Click here to visit our Resolutions page. Executive Board Meetings move to 2nd Mondays

Our board voted to move E-Board meetings to the 2nd Monday of each month. Meetings typically are held from 6pm to 8pm. Our default location is the Humphries Room at Jefferson County Library at 620 Cedar Avenue in Port Hadlock, though the location may vary. Check the calendar on our home page to be certain. Meetings have been booked at the Jefferson County Library for June 20th, July 10th, and August 14th, 2017.

About / Statement of Purpose

Economic Justice is a Platform Issue.  The following statement on economic justice is quoted from the Washington State Democrats platform: Economic Justice, Jobs and Tax Fairness  Income inequality is the driving issue of our time. We are committed to a sustainable economy with strong communities based on living-wage jobs, tax fairness, and shared prosperity. (Washington Democrats State Platform, 2017) Jefferson County Democrats Bylaws bind us to "Endorse and/or support organizations and activities that reflect the Platform of the Jefferson County Democrats and that improve the welfare of Jefferson County, its people, and its natural environment." Within JCD, this group will help JCD membership study and track legislation pertaining to money and government, such that the membership can intelligently question candidates for office as well as elected representatives, and inform others.
